What Is CISV?

...and nope, we aren’t a cult.

"CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world."

CISV International

Children’s International Summer Village International (CISV International) is a global organization founded by Dr. Doris Allen in 1950. It’s built upon the values of friendship, inclusiveness, enthusiasm, engagement, and cooperation. CISV’s educational programs aim to help its participants of all ages to develop the skills they need to take a lead and make a positive difference through “learning by doing”.

As of 2019, there are a total of 60 National Associations with over 200 Chapters of local groups. In the Philippines, there are 5 chapters including Quezon City, Manila, Baguio, Bacolod, and Cebu. Each chapter has youth-led groups called the Junior Branch (JB).

CISV Junior Branch

The Junior Branch offers opportunities for youth to develop attitudes, skills, and knowledge through educational initiatives that contribute to the mission and vision of CISV. It works to accomplish 4 goals: to actively contribute to the CISV education approach, provide youth with opportunities for self-development and leadership, encourage youth to take initiatives in their own communities, and foster an inclusive community of youth volunteers.

CISV Cebu Junior Branch is an active member of the JB community, with members active both locally and internationally. The Core Team of CISV JB Cebu hosts events almost every month that are open to all members of the community. These events provide an avenue for like-minded youth individuals to become active global citizens.

In the past, JB Cebu has hosted a variety of events with different goals in mind. Some events, such as Game On and Trivia Time, have been running annually since 2017. Just as how the Cebucolod (Cebu-Bacolod) partnership has been running since 2018 with annual camps hosted in Cebu or Bacolod with participants from both cities. JB Cebu also hosts short-term events which aim to tackle current situations through events, talks, and campaigns or to create a space for JBers to bond and get to know one another. From beach cleanups to hiking, JB Cebu has paved a way for young members of the CISV Cebu community to stay involved.
